Welcome to the Golden Gate Area Council’s STEM page. This page will be a resource for any and all Nova Counselors, Supernova Mentors, Unit Leaders, and anyone interested in the BSA’s STEM program. The Requirements Page has sortable tables and guidance for Supernova Mentors and candidates for completing the Supernova Application for all program levels. The Requirements Menu has links to the current Nova and Supernova requirements pages. The Resources Menu has links for Nova Counselors and Supernova Mentors, a list of the Council’s STEM in a Box offerings, Local STEM activities, and additional resources from National. There’s lots of information on these pages, but if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the GGAC STEM Committee Chair, Michael McDowell.
Starting on September 14th, 2020, Webelos and AOLs can join the GGAC’s STEM Committee for a 7-session Virtual event all about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math while earning Cub Scouting’s highest STEM Award, the Dr. Charles H. Townes SUPERNOVA. During this 7-week program, scouts will work with a mentor to explore different areas of STEM, building a circuit with Scouts BSA, attend a geological hike and see how science, technology, engineering and math affect their daily lives. With the potential exception of one or two activities, this program will be delivered virtually.
Registration will open in mid-June 2020 with two sessions of 15 Scouts each. This program is limited to Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts. The sessions will both be on Monday evenings with one at 6:30 pm and one at 7:30 pm. The cost for the entire program will be $50 (subject to change).
